Nomi Network (Cambodia) was named after Nomi, an 8 year old girl whom Diana, the President and Co-Founder, had met while travelling in Cambodia with her Co-Founders Supei Liu and Alissa Moore-Williams. Nomi had been trafficked by her stepfather, suffering unimaginable physical and sexual abuse. In spite of all the trauma she had experienced, Nomi remained a warm and resilient child.
Today, Nomi has grown into a beautiful young woman with a generous heart who continuously inspires women to fight for a slavery-free world. The aim of Nomi Network is to provide a future for thousands of other women of all ages like her. Nomi Network creates economic opportunities for survivors and women at risk of human trafficking, and has training centers and production plants in India and Cambodia. Each survivor is taught how to draw, design and make the products using organic or recycled materials. Every product you purchase contributes to job opportunities for these survivors and women at risk of human trafficking, helping to end modern-day slavery.
Our founder, Serena Kao, has been nominated by Nomi Network for her keen support in stopping human trafficking while providing opportunities for true female empowerment. On February 14 2014, Valentine’s Day, GoPurpose launched its first solutions platform with Nomi Network in Siem Reap, Cambodia, bringing in victims and volunteers alike to one of the training centres, where survivors were taught necessary life skills that would provide them a source of income. This day was chosen to symbolize a renewed life and hope for the underprivileged, many of whom had not experienced freedom at all prior to the event. To date, Nomi is now en route to provide 100,000 women with jobs in India and Cambodia in training centers, for designs and production / manufacturing skills in lifestyle goods.
